‘The Big Hangover’ Escape Room is another gem in the crown of Know Escape’s premium escape games—quirky, hilarious, and packed with unexpected twists.
It’s a very silly game.
What did we think of The Big Hangover escape room in Witham?
This is the only game at Witham Escape Rooms that we have not yet played – and it turned out to be an excellent choice for our ‘mature’ team.
The concept is simple – after a booze-fuelled stag party, you must find the missing groom and get him to his wedding within the hour. The game itself is much harder, beginning with every player handcuffed with very little room for manoeuvre.
This is another ‘large’ game with multiple rooms – a local woman’s house, a prison cell, a sketchy Essex wideboy’s kiosk and a grotty toilet (another running theme in the Know Escape games – like The Hideout). The wideboy, named Shady, even makes a personal appearance at certain key points in the game.

We made a fairly decent start, the puzzles flowing in a logical order. There is a lot of teamwork required in the early stages of the game. Fortunately we are quite good at communicating next steps to ensure we keep progressing through the game.
As always, there are plenty of padlocks – and several novel puzzles to solve in order to find the combinations. There are a lot of clues and hints scattered across a massive set, requiring every player to pay close attention. Everything means something. Unless it doesn’t.
There is one technology-based puzzle and, as is seemingly always the case, it doesn’t quite work the first time. Fortunately, the concept behind the puzzle is simple, so at least we know what we are supposed to do when the computer does start responding.
We did manage to track down the missing bridegroom in time for his wedding. Winners!

Linda’s comment
It was quite good actually. Lots of puzzles to solve.
Criticisms? Quirks?
The aforementioned technology-based puzzle was frustrating. We were also warned before entering the room that some of the locks are particularly ‘sticky’. This is useful advice – otherwise we may have abandoned some of the puzzles.
For those who have played other Know Escape games, there are several easter eggs that refer to characters and scenarios in other escape rooms. This is always fun, because it reveals a ‘universe’ that ties together all the games across all of the venues.
The Big Hangover escape room review – conclusion
The Big Hangover is one of the simpler games on offer at Witham Escape Rooms – the main reason we have delayed playing until now. But with family to entertain, this seemed like a good way to spend an hour – and so it proved to be.
We certainly had a good time, and there were puzzles to appeal to everyone. No one was left standing around, everyone could get involved and we all had a chance to solve something. That’s really important because we could all be engaged together.
As with other Know Escape games, the theming is good, the set is a decent size, and there’s a dash of childish humour throughout. And poop. Always poop.
Yes, we had a good time. Yes, we would recommend.

The escape rooms are located in a unit above The Grove shopping precinct – just off Witham High Street.
Can you park at Witham Escape Rooms?
Not immediately outside the venue, no. There is a large pay-and-display car park behind the shopping precinct where the escape rooms are located.
Accessibility info
The Hideout is located on an upper floor, so you must be able to navigate two flights of stairs to reach it. Most of the game takes place on one level although there is one section that requires a small amount of clambering. However, only one person needs to do the scrambling while the rest of the team waits for a moment.
If in doubt, contact Witham Escape Rooms for further information.
